JAM Automation moves 250kg aluminium profiles with Piab

JAM Automation, a system integrator designing an automation solution for the electronics industry, faced the challenge of automating the removal of heavy aluminum profiles weighing up to 250kg from a warehouse cassette. Their initial idea for a mechanical gripper was unworkable due to a lack of space between the tightly packed profiles. They contacted Piab for an alternative solution.

Piab provided a solution using three of its Kenos KVG area vacuum grippers mounted on a linear robot. This vacuum system provided a secure hold on the profiles without needing retooling and could handle various profile widths. The solution successfully automated the previously manual process, which often required two employees, thereby freeing up staff for other production steps. The efficiency of Piab's system was proven in a test where two employees could not pull a profile from the gripper.
