A U.S. Fortune 500 hardware and home appliance retailer invested in new wireless infrastructure and wanted to use location-based technology to improve both the in-store shopper experience and associate performance. Large-format stores can be overwhelming and customers often struggle to find specific items or an available associate, so the retailer partnered with Phunware to add indoor location services to its iOS and Android customer and associate apps and ran a pilot in one store.

Phunware’s solution provides turn-by-turn “blue dot” navigation to exact item locations, lets associates scan a barcode to navigate to stock or restock points, and sends push alerts for BOPUS pickups and customer help requests. After a successful trial, the apps will roll out to more than 2,000 stores by the end of 2020, improving stocking efficiency, BOPUS fulfillment and enabling targeted mobile marketing.
