A Phoenix Software Case Study
Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of HIV and sexual health services, was struggling with an ageing IT environment that was costly, unreliable and close to end of life. Its storage was already full, its 35 physical servers and SAN were becoming increasingly unstable, and the charity needed to refresh and consolidate its infrastructure to better support more than 350 users and future service demands. Phoenix Software was brought in to help modernise the environment with server virtualisation and storage planning.
Phoenix Software delivered a fully virtualised, consolidated solution that reduced 35 physical and 35 virtual servers to just three HP DL380P Gen 8 servers running 70 VMware vSphere 5.5 virtual machines, supported by Nimble flash storage. The new platform increased storage capacity from 2TB to 20TB, improved performance and reliability, and was implemented at no extra cost compared with extending the old warranties. Since installation, the system has recorded no failures over 16 months and is expected to meet the charity’s needs for at least five years.
