Kent County Council - Customer Case Study

Kent County Council, the largest local authority in England, needed to modernise its aging Windows XP desktop estate to give staff a more flexible, mobile working environment while reducing costs and preparing for the end of Windows XP support. Phoenix Software was brought in to help deliver a virtual desktop approach using VMware Horizon.

Phoenix Software implemented a Windows 7 virtual desktop infrastructure based on VMware Horizon, reusing the council’s existing Cisco UCS servers and storage across two data centres and rolling the project out in stages. The result was a modern thin client environment for 11,000 users, expected to cut core desktop operating costs by one third and reduce support calls by 80%, while also enabling remote working and office space consolidation.
