Case Study: New College Durham boosts flexibility and disaster recovery with Phoenix Software and VMware vSAN

A Phoenix Software Case Study

Preview of the New College Durham Case Study

For almost a decade, New College Durham has been partnering with Phoenix Software and VMware to revolutionise its IT estate for the better

New College Durham, a medium-sized university in North East England, needed to control IT costs while still delivering high-quality teaching resources and supporting growing student needs under ongoing austerity pressures. Working with Phoenix Software, the college looked to virtualisation and cloud services to improve flexibility, resilience, and value from its IT estate.

Phoenix Software helped New College Durham virtualise servers with VMware vSphere, move to virtual desktops with VMware VDI, add disaster recovery through VMware vCloud Air, and refresh storage using VMware vSAN. The college gained greater flexibility for staff and students, stronger data protection and disaster recovery, and avoided a costly storage refresh, with an estimated saving of £100,000 to £120,000 from implementing vSAN.
