National Grocery Retailer - Customer Case Study

National Grocery Retailer, a national grocery retailer with more than 1,900 stores across 20 banners, needed a way to centralize energy management across a complex portfolio of disparate building management systems and hardware. The company wanted real-time visibility into refrigeration, HVAC, and lighting performance at the equipment level, along with better maintenance workflows, savings verification, and integration of multiple IoT data points. Phoenix Energy Technologies helped address this challenge with its Enterprise Data Xchange (EDX) and Building Intelligence (BI) reporting platform.

Phoenix Energy Technologies implemented EDX across the retailer’s locations to consolidate data, support remote commissioning, and identify energy control measures such as suction float optimization, discharge float, high defrost, VFD optimization, and corporate compliance scheduling. The solution also streamlined dispatches for issues that could not be fixed remotely and helped the customer pursue utility incentives. As a result, National Grocery Retailer achieved energy consumption reductions, an enterprise-wide view of store operations, easier workflow management, and a reported 3–5x ROI, while qualifying for millions of dollars in rebates and incentive dollars.
