Comparative Load Testing of a DBMS for SAP BW in Retail

The customer, one of the largest retail chains, needed to identify the fastest database management system (DBMS) for its SAP BW platform to optimize retail sales analysis. They engaged vendor PFLB to perform comparative load testing services on three different configurations: Oracle, SAP HANA, and Oracle EXADATA.

PFLB implemented a rigorous testing methodology to recreate an identical load to the production server, using Apache JMeter to run the tests. The analysis provided the client with comparative performance data, leading to the selection of SAP HANA. The solution resulted in a fourfold overall performance increase, a reduction in data storage needs, and in some cases, a 10-20x acceleration of user tasks, enabling the customer to make a well-founded IT strategy decision.
