The Northern Sydney Local Health District uses Pexip telehealth solutions to support intensive care, aged care, and outpatient services

Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD), part of NSW Health and serving about 850,000 residents across five hospitals and multiple community health centres with 10,000+ staff, needed a way during COVID‑19 to keep critically ill ICU patients connected with family, provide remote clinical access for residential aged care and rural patients, and support new parents without exposing them to risk. To meet these challenges NSLHD adopted Pexip telehealth technology — including the Pexip Infinity self‑hosted solution and Virtual Meeting Rooms — to enable secure, flexible video communications across devices.

Working with Pexip, NSLHD deployed bedside computers and webcams, virtual meeting rooms and clinician workflows with staff training so patients could make on‑demand family calls and book video consultations. The Pexip solution kept ICU patients connected, let rural and residential patients avoid long travel and exposure, and delivered services to new parents at home; telehealth has been available since April 2020 and a survey of 2,000 respondents rated convenience as the top benefit, with notable uptake among endocrinology and renal transplant patients.
