A PEX Case Study
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry's undergraduate student association faced barriers to student participation because most students couldn't prepay for conferences, events, or trips and reimbursement was slow. The manual expense process—lots of paperwork, searching for receipts, and using personal credit cards—consumed time and risked missed reimbursements. The association turned to PEX (prepaid cards and the PEX mobile app) to address these issues.
PEX loaded funds directly from each student budget onto prepaid PEX Cards and enabled receipt submission via the PEX mobile app camera, while admins could transfer funds without writing checks; the cards work wherever Visa debit is accepted. By using PEX, the association reduced paperwork and administrative time and enabled more students to participate in activities without needing to front costs.
