Implementing Iiot-Based Asset Reliability Program At Gold Mine

Leading Gold Mining Company, a major gold mining operator in Nevada, USA, was pursuing a digital transformation to improve asset reliability and production. The company needed better machine health data more frequently than its long-running walk-around predictive maintenance program could provide, as failures were still occurring between monthly and quarterly routes. It worked with Petasense and its Asset Reliability & Optimization (ARO) system and wireless vibration sensors to monitor critical pumps, fans, and mills.

Petasense implemented permanently installed Vibration Motes and ARO Cloud software, integrated with the company’s OSIsoft PI historian, to deliver real-time condition monitoring and alerts. The program identified issues such as loose frame bolts on a scrubber fan and cavitation in heap leach pumps, enabling proactive repairs and design improvements. The wireless predictive maintenance program paid for itself within six months and helped improve asset reliability, personnel efficiency, and production.
