Stockton East Water District improves network reliability over 2000 feet with Perle

The Stockton East Water District (SEWD) faced a challenge with its aging network infrastructure, which was struggling with increasing demands for high-speed services and lacked redundancy. To improve reliability and prepare for 1GB data rates, SEWD Network Administrator John McGinnis sought to rebuild the system using fiber optics and needed to connect a new remote server room over a long distance. They chose Perle fiber media converters for this fiber to Ethernet upgrade.

Perle provided the solution by enabling a seamless long-distance fiber to Ethernet connection between the main server room and the remote building over 2000 feet of multimode fiber. This allowed SEWD to utilize existing campus wiring while achieving its goals of improved network redundancy and catastrophic protection. The implementation was a success, with the administrator noting the new architecture provided reliability and that the system has been running without issue since installation. Perle media converters will also be used for the district's upcoming security system upgrade.
