Pixact enables real-time monitoring over 100m with Perle

Pixact, a manufacturer of image-based process measurement technology, faced a challenge when implementing a visual monitoring system at a stone-wool production facility. The distance between the cameras on the production floor and the server room exceeded Ethernet capabilities by approximately 100 meters, and the hazardous industrial environment required a robust networking solution. To overcome this, Pixact turned to Perle Media Converters with SFP optical transceivers.

Perle provided the solution by enabling reliable connectivity over multimode fiber cabling, which is immune to the temperature fluctuations and EMI interference found in the plant. The rugged Perle Media Converters operated effectively in the extended temperatures and their Jumbo Packets feature ensured the real-time transfer of frames necessary for effective visual monitoring. This allowed the customer to streamline operations, increase the speed of error detection, and integrate real-time production information into the factory's automation system.
