NBCUniversal faced a unique network challenge at its Global Earth Station, needing to extend device control to Ethernet-enabled satellite amplifiers located over 300 feet from a switch. The project risked becoming costly and complex. To address this, they turned to vendor Perle for an Industrial Ethernet Switch and Media Converter solution, which provided a reliable and cost-effective way to overcome Ethernet distance limitations.

The solution implemented by Perle involved connecting an Industrial Ethernet Switch in an outdoor enclosure to the satellite amplifiers and using existing fiber run back to an indoor Media Converter. This created a simple, plug-and-play extension of the network. Perle's hardware met all environmental requirements and transformed a potentially complex installation into a straightforward process, allowing NBCUniversal to integrate remote satellite deployments into their corporate network efficiently and affordably.
