Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District extends Gigabit Ethernet 4km over multimode fiber with Perle

The Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District needed a cost-effective and reliable way to transmit high-bandwidth video feeds for its new electronic toll collection system across the entire 2737-meter bridge. The challenge was overcoming the 550-meter distance limitation of their existing multimode fiber network for Gigabit Ethernet. They contacted Perle Systems for a solution.

Perle proposed a unique and easy-to-install solution using two of their Gigabit Fiber Media Converters deployed back-to-back. Each converter's 2km reach effectively provided 4km of total distance, easily covering the bridge's length. Perle's implementation successfully fulfilled the distance requirements, allowing video data transmission without any loss of bandwidth and simplifying a potentially complex project.
