City of Colorado Springs arrests half a dozen suspects with Perle industrial switches

The City of Colorado Springs faced a challenge when upgrading its surveillance system from analog to high-resolution IP cameras. The new cameras required both power and data connectivity in remote, outdoor locations that lacked convenient power sources and exceeded the distance limits of copper Ethernet. They needed a rugged solution that could provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) and convert copper to fiber for data transmission. The city's Enterprise Architect, Mark Damon, turned to Perle for a solution.

Perle implemented its IDS PoE Switches, which were rated for extreme temperatures and provided the necessary PoE power and copper-to-fiber conversion. The switches also offered additional ports for future expansion. The solution was powered by Perle Industrial DIN Rail Power Supplies. The new system was a great success, providing law enforcement with the high-quality video needed to make arrests, including half a dozen people in the first weekend after deployment.
