BT keeps LDU access live with Perle’s dual-feed IOLAN Terminal Servers across 4 serial ports

BT, a major telecommunications company, faced the challenge of modernizing its legacy network to improve service efficiency. The company needed to replace an aging X.25 WAN with a direct IP connection to its existing Loop Diagnostic Units (LDUs) at exchanges, without replacing the still-functional LDUs themselves. Perle provided its IOLAN Terminal Servers to enable this secure, high-speed remote access over Ethernet.

The solution involved installing Perle IOLAN Terminal Servers at the exchange sites to connect to the LDUs. These terminal servers met BT's critical requirements for power redundancy through dual DC feeds and passed the stringent "Safe to Connect" security standard. By implementing Perle's solution, BT successfully migrated its diagnostic testing to a faster IP network, allowing engineers to service residential customers more quickly and efficiently while preserving its existing LDU infrastructure.
