Athens International Airport extends CCTV and WAP coverage up to 3km with Perle

Athens International Airport needed to deploy new security cameras, wireless access points, and other network devices across its large campus. The challenge was to transmit both data and power to this equipment over distances greater than 100 meters without replacing the existing 2-wire twisted pair cabling infrastructure that was installed when the airport was built. Perle Ethernet Extenders were identified as the solution to this problem.

Perle provided a scalable solution using managed Ethernet Extenders in rackmount chassis, which were deployed in wiring closets, and standalone PoE Extenders placed near equipment. This allowed the airport to leverage its existing cabling to transmit data up to 3km and deliver up to 30Watts of power. The implementation of over 350 Perle devices saved significant costs, protected the airport's infrastructure investment, and future-proofed the network, all while being centrally managed for security and ease of maintenance.
