Aker Solutions achieves 1 million-message reliability with Perle

Aker Solutions, a global provider to the oil and gas industry, faced a critical challenge during a system upgrade on the Britannia Satellites platform. They needed a highly reliable serial device server to handle substantial data throughput between the topside control station and subsea equipment, where any failure would cost over $1 million per day. They rigorously tested products from several manufacturers, including Perle.

Perle's IOLAN device servers were selected after outperforming competitors in lab tests, demonstrating zero errors over more than one million messages and exceptional stability during a 17-hour soak test. The solution was integrated into the new SMACS6 Master Control Station, providing flawless serial-to-Ethernet connectivity for the platform. The Perle system is now installed and operating seamlessly, supporting the platform's processing of over 20 million barrels of oil annually.
