Xercise4Less is a growing chain of 26 budget health clubs in the UK that needed a low-cost way to keep members engaged and drive new sign-ups through word-of-mouth. With member referrals a key acquisition channel, the chain sought a simple, trackable program to encourage members to invite friends and deepen loyalty.
In August 2014 Xercise4Less launched Perkville’s refer-a-friend rewards system, letting members send special offers via email, social media or text and earn points when friends join or work out. In the first five months 3,026 members sent ~12,595 referrals, producing 517 new members (averaging over 20 new sign-ups per location per month); during Aug–Oct conversion exceeded 5% with a median 17 days to sign-up, boosting engagement, loyalty and ancillary revenue.
