O2 Fitness, a fast-growing North Carolina gym chain, needed a simple, multi-location rewards solution that would integrate with its ClubReady management system and drive member engagement, referrals and retention across its clubs. With expansion underway (from 12 to 25 gyms), the company wanted a program that staff could run easily and that could systematically reward target behaviors and social media activity.

In January 2013 O2 launched O2 Rewards powered by Perkville — a cloud-based points program rewarding check-ins, personal training, referrals and social posts and offering local partner perks. The program delivered a 2054% ROI: participants increased paid personal training by ~33% (sample: 32.8%), referrals rose (~17% overall; participants averaged 199% more referrals than non-participants), check-ins grew ~13%, 588 new members were referred, 1,060+ social posts were generated, and cancellations fell (Q4 down 3.5%), with estimated retention value of $400K–$800K.
