Attracting Employees Beyond Pay in the Education Sector

Lincoln College, a large General Further Education college with 1,110 staff across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, faced chronic FE funding constraints, average lecturer pay below comparable sectors and difficulty recruiting and retaining specialist teaching staff. To strengthen its employee value proposition without large pay rises, the college embedded Perkbox’s employee benefits platform (including the Perkbox Wellness Hub) in July 2017 as part of its STEP cultural transformation.

Perkbox consolidated the college’s benefits into a multi-channel, smartphone-accessible platform, supported recognition programs (Spotlight Awards) and wellbeing resources, and improved internal communications and engagement. The results: 72% of staff activated accounts, 68% redeeming perks, c. £33,000 saved by employees in six months, ~8,300 perks redeemed (including 1,109 coffees and 1,123 cinema tickets), and positive wellbeing survey outcomes — demonstrating Perkbox’s measurable impact on accessibility, recognition and employee engagement.
