City of New Orleans Saves More Than $1.25 Million by Using BuySpeed™ eProcurement Solution in Katrina’s Wake

The City of New Orleans faced a cumbersome, paper-based purchasing process worsened by Hurricane Katrina’s devastation, dramatic staff reductions and a surge in rebuilding procurements. To modernize and rapidly scale procurement, the City contracted Periscope Holdings to deploy its web-based BuySpeed™ eProcurement solution.

Periscope Holdings implemented BuySpeed™ (integrated with the City’s Microsoft Dynamics‑GP) to automate requisitions, approvals, vendor registration, bid management and PO delivery, including punch‑out ordering with Staples. The system helped the City save more than $1.25 million, cut requisition cycle time by 80% (from 4.5 days to 1), increase purchase orders processed five‑fold (2,144 to 11,160), reduce cost per PO from $80 to $9 and deliver a four‑to‑one return on investment.
