A Perforce Case Study
Supermassive Games is a UK-based game studio built around Agile development and small interdisciplinary teams, but rapid iteration and large binary assets created a need for robust, scalable source control. With roughly 70 people working on projects and a repository of about 1.8 million files (0.5–1 TB), the studio needed a system that wouldn’t degrade with growth and would support continuous delivery and online development cycles.
They standardized on Perforce Helix for all code and assets and integrated it with an in-house auto-build system to produce continuous builds every 15–30 minutes. Helix’s performance with large binaries, branching, atomic changelists and permissions reduced errors, sped up bug fixes and reviews, simplified developers’ views, and gave Supermassive the confidence to scale projects and staff without compromising control.
