SIMULIA finds 12 memory bugs with Perforce TotalView

SIMULIA, a developer of realistic 3D simulation software, faced significant challenges in finding and fixing elusive memory bugs. These issues occurred rarely in long-running, optimized processes, were difficult to reproduce, and consumed excessive developer time and resources. This led them to seek a proper diagnostic tool, ultimately turning to Perforce and its TotalView MemoryScape solution.

By implementing Perforce's MemoryScape, an interactive memory debugger, SIMULIA gained a scriptable tool to automatically and continuously scan for memory problems. This allowed developers to quickly identify and fix bugs at their source, including in complex parallel MPI jobs. The solution proved fast and effective, finding about 12 memory bugs on an initial scan and leading to substantial time and cost savings while significantly improving their overall QA process.
