Platform Safety for Driverless Trains: How Viveris Technologies Uses Helix QAC

Viveris Technologies, part of the Viveris consulting group, needed to modernize the platform safety system for the driverless Lyon Metro while meeting the rail industry’s EN 50128 SIL2 safety requirements. To do that, they turned to Perforce’s Helix QAC for C and C++ and the MISRA coding standard to help prove compliance and reduce development risk.

Perforce’s Helix QAC provided accurate static analysis and MISRA compliance support, giving Viveris evidence for the auditor and helping the team justify and track rule deviations. The result was a successful EN 50128 audit, allowing final commissioning to proceed; by 2013, the system was operating across all 15 stations and could detect when a passenger or object had fallen onto the track.
