A Perforce Case Study
NYSE Euronext, the global exchange group that includes the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext, faced rapid technical growth after multiple mergers: a six-person team was responsible for hundreds of projects across a sprawling, heterogeneous estate that grew to 14,000 servers. By 2007 deployments were a slow, patch-based, error-prone process requiring weekend testing and risking SEC noncompliance; an urgent regulatory update exposed the need for a fast, auditable production mechanism.
The team adopted Perforce Helix beyond source control to manage the full software lifecycle — versioning everything, enforcing depot-based workflows, using proxies to reduce latency, running nightly compliance diffs, and enabling fast rollbacks and hot swaps. The result: scalable, automated releases (198 active projects and 6,600+ production releases per year), millisecond deployments, strong traceability for SEC audits, near-zero release-induced outages, and the ability to support up to ~10,000 releases annually with the same small team at roughly 99.9% accuracy.
