Helix Core Was the Obvious Choice for Scania

Scania, the Swedish manufacturer of smart transport systems, needed a scalable versioning platform to support Agile and Continuous Delivery while meeting strict automotive compliance requirements. Its mix of tools, including Subversion and IBM ClearCase, made collaboration difficult, prevented a single source of truth, and could not handle the volume or variety of data. After a comprehensive evaluation, Scania chose Perforce P4.

Perforce implemented P4 as Scania’s “Common Versioning Repository” to centralize version control, improve branching and merging, and integrate with the company’s existing tools. The result was a 1.3TB repository used by 1,200 users who submit about 1,000 changelists per day, with full traceability and auditability for regulatory compliance. Perforce P4 also enabled minimal-disruption deployment and gave Scania a stronger foundation for rapid time to market.
