A Perforce Case Study
Halon Entertainment, a full-service visualization studio, faced inefficient and disparate workflows by juggling both Git and Perforce version control systems. The limitations of Git for managing binary assets and plugins created chaos, while its complexity diverted artists from creative work. Seeking to streamline collaboration and hide technical complexity, Director of Engineering Rogerio Gasi aimed to replace Git.
The solution, implemented using Perforce P4, centered on a centralized server with a depot-per-project model and Perforce Streams. Integration with AYON automated project setup and workspace management. This shift by Perforce slashed project startup time from two days to twenty minutes, liberated art teams from tedious tasks, and enhanced collaboration across all their production workflows.
