A Perforce Case Study
The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), a global life sciences data organization, faced significant challenges in managing and distributing its rapidly growing datasets, which exceeded 50 petabytes. Preparing a data release could take up to three months, and replicating massive databases across three data centers for disaster recovery and public access was highly time-consuming. To address this, they implemented the Delphix data platform from Perforce.
Using Perforce Delphix to virtualize its databases, EMBL-EBI automated data delivery across its distributed infrastructure. This allowed teams to self-serve data environments in minutes and rewind data to any point in time. The results included a 20% reduction in data preparation time, a 70% reduction in total database storage footprint, and the ability to deliver more frequent data releases to millions of researchers worldwide.
