Bringing Advanced Static Analysis Capabilities to a Complex and Constantly Changing Software Codebase

AVM, the Berlin-based manufacturer of DSL routers, develops the software for its devices with a team of about 200 in-house developers. As its codebase and Linux-based firmware environment became increasingly complex and constantly changed, AVM needed a static analysis tool to help shorten development time, support developers, and maintain consistent code quality. Perforce Klocwork was used to meet that need.

Perforce’s Klocwork integrated smoothly into AVM’s build environment and was used to analyze both proprietary and open source code. The solution helped AVM find bugs, surface useful code-quality issues, and give developers feedback before check-in. AVM reported reduced development times, better developer education, and improved code quality, with Klocwork Insight also providing metrics to help manage the development team.
