ArenaNet, the game developer behind “Guild Wars,” faced the challenge of managing millions of lines of code, hundreds of design documents, and thousands of art assets across a five-year development cycle. To keep every file’s full change history traceable and reproducible, ArenaNet chose Perforce Helix VCS/Helix Core for version control and asset management.
Perforce implemented Helix to support both programmers and artists with command-line and graphical interfaces, fast synchronization, branching, and conflict resolution. The result was improved productivity, reliability, and communication for dozens of users, with the team able to quickly trace file histories, compare revisions, and manage multiple active branches while maintaining complete, understandable change history.
