A Perforce Case Study
Rooster Teeth, the Austin-based studio behind the online animated series RWBY, faced a growing production pain point: tracking and recovering changes across a massive asset repository (about 5 TB and ~10 million files). Limited traceability of corrupted or modified assets cost valuable time, and after evaluating Subversion (found counterintuitive) and Git (which didn’t scale—crashing when accessing ~1,000 files), the studio needed a more reliable version-control solution.
Rooster Teeth adopted Helix Core (Perforce) for its proven scalability, support for both ASCII and binary assets, and team familiarity. Helix was integrated with Windows, Autodesk Maya and Poser so artists always work on the latest files; it ran on standard desktops with no downtime and handled intensive loads (500 shots in two weeks, 300–400 queries per night). The result: faster recovery of lost or corrupted assets, significantly reduced risk of missed delivery dates, and expanded use of Helix for tool distribution and future productions.
