A Peplink Case Study
The University of Hong Kong had to move lectures online when campuses closed during the COVID-19 outbreak, but many lecturers’ residential ADSL and broadband links could not handle bandwidth-heavy web conferencing, causing frequent jitters, interruptions and dropped sessions. The university needed a simple, plug-and-play solution that lecturers could install at home to provide stable, higher-bandwidth connectivity, so it turned to Peplink and its UBR series routers.
Peplink deployed UBR units that combined multiple LTE links, used WAN Smoothing and were managed via InControl2 (with PrimeCare support), giving lecturers fast, redundant, plug-and-play connectivity. The result was jitter-free, high-quality video streaming within days, remote SIM deployment and provider failover without connection breaks, and centralized management that cut on-site support—solving the university’s streaming issues in days instead of weeks while keeping training and costs low.
