Surveillance Boats Sail Past Dropouts with Peplink

The Municipality of Amsterdam needed reliable onboard connectivity for its electric surveillance boats, which patrol the city’s canals for public safety, law enforcement, and environmental monitoring. With boats often moving below ground level and out of line of sight, their existing cellular phone-based setup suffered frequent dropouts and dead zones. To address this, the municipality worked with Network Innovations and Peplink to improve mobile communications on the vessels.

Network Innovations deployed Peplink HD2 MBX 5G routers and Mobility antennas, managed through InControl and supported by SpeedFusion for bonding and failover. The new setup enabled dual-carrier cellular redundancy and stronger signal reception, helping the boats maintain stable connections even in obstructed areas. As a result, Amsterdam’s surveillance crews gained more reliable real-time communication and monitoring, while the municipality reduced manpower needs and improved visibility of network and vessel status.
