A Peplink Case Study
Sigfox, a leading LPWAN IoT network operator in the Netherlands, faced a critical availability challenge: Sigfox base stations depended on DSL or fibre landline Internet from providers like KPN and Ziggo, and any landline outage would cut off billions of connected IoT devices. To address this, Sigfox (via operator Aerea) deployed hardware and management from Peplink, notably the Peplink MAX BR1 router (and InControl 2 for remote management).
Aerea connected each Sigfox base station to a Peplink MAX BR1 with an embedded 4G LTE/3G modem so the router can monitor the landline link and automatically fail over to Tele2 or T-Mobile when KPN or Ziggo experience outages, then seamlessly switch back when restored. Peplink’s solution delivers reliable automatic failover, improved availability of Sigfox base stations, reduced service interruptions for IoT devices, and easier remote configuration and fewer truck rolls via InControl 2.
