Peplink Steers Construction Vehicles Towards an Autonomous Future

Peplink worked with Steer, a Norwegian startup focused on autonomous solutions for construction equipment, to solve a connectivity challenge for remotely operating semi-autonomous vehicles at a rural site 300 km from their datacenter. Steer needed highly reliable connectivity because local 4G coverage was unstable, and they were operating large Caterpillar dump trucks and mini dump trucks in a hazardous environment.

Peplink implemented a SpeedFusion-based network using the MBX Mini at the remote site, an SDX with a FlexModule at the center, and SpeedFusion Engine on the mini trucks. This setup delivered bandwidth bonding, hot failover, and backup LTE, enabling 24/7 remote operation. Over a 3-month pilot, Steer increased productivity, reduced travel time to site, cut costs, and improved worker health and safety while moving more than 30,000 cubic meters of construction debris.
