A Peplink Case Study
Moby Lines, an Italian ferry operator running routes to Elba, Sardinia and Corsica, needed a way to load‑balance multiple LTE connections, deliver reliable, easy‑to‑use Internet to as many as 2,000 passengers per vessel, and collect passenger insights via a simple interface. Peplink was selected to meet these requirements, using hardware and services including the MAX HD2, AP One In‑Wall and AP One Flex 300M access points and the InControl 2 cloud management platform.
Peplink (with partner Know‑IT) deployed a single MAX HD2 for intelligent LTE load balancing, AP One access points for indoor/outdoor coverage, a multilingual captive portal for user access and InControl 2 for cloud management and real‑time fleet tracking. The rollout delivered reliable Wi‑Fi, passenger demographics and location insights, and enabled Italy’s first “smart ferry” (Marmorica); the first phase covered 4 fast cruise ferries, 1 cruise ferry and 3 small ferries for Moby Lines and 6 ferries for subsidiary Toremar, with WAN virtualization using Peplink Balance 710 planned next.
