A Peplink Case Study
The TU Delft Hydro Motion Team required a highly reliable communication network for their hydrogen-powered boat during a four-hour race in Monaco. The challenge was to maintain a clear and stable data link between the crew onboard and the team on shore across international waters, despite physical obstacles that ruled out traditional VHF radio. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor Peplink and integrator Frontier EU for a solution that needed no fixed lines and could be managed remotely.
The solution involved deploying a Peplink MAX Transit Duo Pro router with multiple cellular SIMs on the boat, paired with a rugged Mobility 42G antenna. This was managed through Peplink’s InControl 2 platform and utilized SpeedFusion’s Hot Failover technology. The result was a connection that remained stable even at speeds of 40 km/h, with automatic failover between cellular providers ensuring zero data loss. This provided the shore team with a clear, real-time picture of the boat's status, enabling safe and strategic decision-making during the race.
