Electric Cooperative Seamlessly Migrates Substations to LTE Connectivity

American Electric Service Provider faced an urgent migration when their EVDO network was scheduled for shutdown, forcing a move to LTE across roughly 50 substations. They required new modems that supported 3G/4G LTE, wired Ethernet, external antennas, 24 V DC power, rugged enclosures, extreme temperature operation, and centralized management. Peplink was identified as the vendor able to meet these needs.

A Peplink partner deployed the MAX BR1 Mini at each substation and implemented Peplink’s InControl 2 cloud management. The MAX BR1 Mini delivered LTE, Wi‑Fi and Ethernet connectivity in a compact, -40° to 149°F-rated rugged unit with GPS and antenna support, while InControl 2 enabled central monitoring of about 50 devices. As a result, the American Electric Service Provider smoothly migrated to LTE, now centrally manages all substations, and can quickly identify and resolve connectivity issues.
