A Peplink Case Study
Catamaran, a privately owned 72-foot catamaran sailing the Pacific between New Zealand and Tahiti/Fiji, needed a more reliable onboard network. Its existing setup used several routers as main router and access points, but the system had become difficult to manage and still delivered inconsistent, unstable coverage across the vessel. Peplink was brought in to help improve maritime connectivity.
Peplink implemented a centralized solution built around a MAX BR2 Pro with dual 5G modems, two Maritime 40G antennas, two Starlink antennas with maritime plans, an SD Switch 16-Port Rugged, and three AP One AX access points. The result was stable, fast, full-coverage connectivity onboard, with cellular and Starlink providing redundancy as the vessel moved in and out of range. The new setup also simplified management by consolidating the network around one main router, monitored through InControl 2, and Peplink’s partner is now planning the same deployment for the sister vessel.
