AmaWaterways, an award-winning luxury river cruise operator in Europe, faced rising passenger demand for internet access that strained its 6x 4G LTE roaming SIMs and satellite links. Peplink’s solution (the Peplink Balance with MediaFast 500) was installed on ships to cache web content and app updates so a single download serves all passengers—reducing some downloads by as much as 150x in the Facebook-app example—freeing bandwidth for smoother audio/video calls and faster browsing. Cached content is delivered from the router’s built-in storage with no extra bandwidth use; after one month the MediaFast deployment produced significant bandwidth savings and paid back AmaWaterways’ investment in mere months, prompting plans to roll Peplink’s MediaFast across the entire fleet.
