A Peplink Case Study
Allseas, operator of the Pioneering Spirit—the world’s largest crane vessel—faced the challenge of maintaining reliable, flexible communications 115 miles offshore in the harsh North Sea while performing complex decommissioning work. Rather than rely solely on costly VSAT, Allseas chose Peplink for WAN diversity, deploying Peplink hardware and services including the Balance 710 router, MAX HD2 IP67 cellular units and the InControl 2 cloud management platform.
Peplink implemented a prioritized, multi‑WAN architecture (point‑to‑point Wi‑Fi, two MAX HD2 IP67 LTE links placed >300 m apart, VSAT and Iridium tethering) with the Balance 710 orchestrating failover and InControl 2 enabling remote tuning. The result was continuous, resilient connectivity that kept the vessel in constant contact with shore, enabled safer and more efficient decommissioning operations, and reduced dependence on expensive single‑link solutions and on‑site troubleshooting.
