University of Miami’s Toppel Career Center joins forces with alumni to provide career guidance to students

The University of Miami’s Toppel Career Center struggled to connect students with alumni and maintain an updated, owned networking system that could scale mentorship and industry insight. To address this, Toppel partnered with PeopleGrove and in August 2019 launched Cane2Cane on the PeopleGrove platform, leveraging PeopleGrove Pathways (Connection Success Pathway), Groups, and the UShadow job‑shadowing features to prepare students and simplify mentor matching.

PeopleGrove’s solution delivered on-demand training, structured mentor matching, affinity group support, and a refreshed UShadow program, enabling more consistent alumni engagement and student access to industry professionals. Since launch, more than 2,000 students and nearly 2,000 alumni and friends have joined Cane2Cane, producing numerous positive testimonials and measurable platform adoption that Toppel credits to PeopleGrove’s tools and support.
