Silverchair Information Systems is a scholarly publishing platform that develops and hosts journals, books and other scientific, technical and medical content for customers like the AMA and McGraw Hill. Facing analytic processes that could take weeks to produce monthly reports, Silverchair needed faster ETL and an easy-to-use reporting solution to deliver near real-time insights and self-service analytics to customers.

Silverchair built a proof-of-concept with Pentaho’s Kettle ETL and then embedded Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics into its SCM6 platform. The change cut core report processing from as long as three weeks to a nightly job (sometimes as little as an hour), reduced IT overhead, enabled cross-departmental reporting and self-service dashboards, and delivered a scalable, customer-facing analytics capability that strengthened Silverchair’s value proposition.
