A Penske Case Study
Peirone Produce Co., a large distributor of fresh produce, faced significant challenges with its 60-unit fleet, including improper maintenance leading to frequent on-road breakdowns, high capital expenditures from buying new trucks every two years, and poor CSA scores. To overcome these hurdles, the company partnered with vendor Penske for a preventive maintenance program and to lease new equipment.
Penske implemented a regular preventive maintenance schedule and helped Peirone spec its fleet to consistent, efficient standards. The results were immediate and substantial: on-road breakdowns were nearly eliminated, the fleet's lifespan extended, and CSA scores greatly improved. Additionally, Peirone reduced its cost-per-mile for parts and fuel, increased fuel mileage, and was able to maintain its fleet size despite almost doubling its business.
