Novelis closes the aluminum loop with Penske Logistics, with trucks departing every 40 minutes

Novelis, an aluminum manufacturer, faced the challenge of providing a continuous, safe, and efficient supply of aluminum to support production for a major automotive customer. They needed a logistics solution to move materials between plants hundreds of miles apart while optimizing investment and ensuring visibility. Novelis turned to vendor Penske Logistics for a transportation and supply chain management solution.

Penske Logistics implemented a closed-loop recycling network that continuously transports finished aluminum coils to production plants and returns scrap aluminum for recycling. As the solution, Penske and Novelis collaboratively designed universal trailers that became the core of a dedicated fleet. The results included the fulfillment of just-in-time deliveries, enhanced safety, and a continuous operation with a truck departing approximately every 40 minutes.
