Hunter Water refurbishes 3 reservoirs in 2019 with Pensar

Hunter Water faced significant water loss from three aging reservoirs built in the 1920s and 30s. The structures had leaking expansion joints, and initial inspections revealed challenging conditions including tree root intrusion, structural corrosion, and cracking. Pensar was engaged to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment project to address these issues.

Pensar implemented a multi-faceted solution that included sealing leaks with injection grout, planing floors to improve adhesion, and applying a specialized polyurea membrane system. They used artificial heating to combat unfavorable weather and completed all work effectively within a short shutdown period. For their innovative approach and successful results, the project was awarded a 2021 ACRA Award.
