Corangamite CMA completes Barwon River barrage refurbishment in 8 months with Pensar

Pensar was engaged by Corangamite CMA to design and construct two fishway structures and refurbish an existing weir at the Barwon River Tidal Barrage. The project faced significant challenges, including managing multiple stakeholders, complex geotechnical investigations, difficult site access for materials and heavy plant equipment, and a long lead time for sheet piles imported from Luxembourg.

Pensar implemented an innovative solution by installing FRP sheet piles, which avoided the costly need for cathodic protection. The vendor successfully completed all works while meticulously maintaining the existing water levels and tidal flows of the surrounding environment. Through close collaboration with the client, consultants, and community, Pensar delivered the project successfully, enhancing the local fish passage infrastructure.
