AWMA installs fish screens across sites between Bourke and Moree with Pensar, protecting 2mm waterways

Pensar was engaged by AWMA to install specialized fish screens for irrigation pipeline intakes on behalf of the NSW Department of Fisheries. The challenge was to complete this installation across multiple remote agricultural sites in western New South Wales, which involved navigating harsh environmental conditions, variable ground, and unseasonal wet weather. A critical aspect was working within each property owner's strict irrigation windows, as any disruption to their water supply could impact their large-scale cotton farming operations.

Pensar implemented a collaborative, joint venture-like model with AWMA, who provided bespoke design and manufacturing. Pensar's role focused on site delivery, technical engineering, and extensive consultation with each end-user to tailor solutions to their specific infrastructure. The vendor successfully managed all site investigations, earthworks, installations, and commissioning. This partnership ensured the fish screens were installed with minimal disruption, enhancing the sustainability of local waterways by preventing anything smaller than 2mm from entering the irrigation systems.
