With labor shortages, rising labor costs, and supply issues making gap scans more important and more time-consuming, the retailer needed a better way to keep shelves stocked and improve associate efficiency using automated shelf intelligence.

Pensa Systems implemented automated shelf intelligence to improve gap scan accuracy and speed. In a store audit, Pensa achieved 94% gap detection accuracy and 99% overall accuracy, compared with the retailer’s legacy scan process, delivering up to a 162% improvement in one store. Pensa also reduced scan time to about 2 seconds per shelf segment versus more than 6 seconds previously, allowing an entire grocery store to be scanned in approximately 35 minutes.
